its like the Soviets as well, its not even fiction. If you want to read a very haunting autobio try Shostacovich's memoir,
called, simply, "Memoir". ACTUALLY ITS CALLED TESTIMONY, thank you redditor! He was a state composer (against his will, one might add) and the way he describes artists and composers he knew who were disappeared from history is something i never forgot. they would literally excise them from textbooks and birth records, wipe them out of photographs and republish books without their names in them. And Shostakovich would say, "i bear witness to these people, i knew these people, they existed, they were my friends." its is gutting to see this happening in the united states.•

I’m about 90% of the way through the gulag archipelago right now and ICE is operating very similarly to the soviets. Door to door raids, disappearing people, denying correspondence, using families against each other, lying to detainees about their rights, keeping them in cells that are too hot or too cold, not feeding people enough, denying legal counsel, beating people during arrests, popping testicles of prisoners, and course the infuriating insistence that the people they are arresting are dangerous criminals when that is clearly not the case. They are our NKVD just less professional. They only saving grace is that the United States is much more inculcated against this type of stuff than the Soviet Union was
Edit: more similarities I’ve thought of
protecting officers who preform extrajudicial executions
labeling anyone against them as terrorists
separating children from their parents and sending them to special camps
overcrowding people in cells

yeah, i don't want to falsely paint us as bad as the Soviets, but there are undeniable similarities i shouldn't be able to point to in a democracy. We still have a constitution and even republicans are fed up, but this is like a cavity- if you don't get it all the first time its going to keep rotting

I live here and this was a set of posters advertising yoga lessons for cats.
The local vet got word of it and took them down, then got into a row with the cat yoga group because he supports the dog yoga group. Quite hypocritical, but a bit besides the point, because the posters themselves had pretty gratuitous pictures of cat butts.

It looked like that. A giant asterisks of a cat bum just staring into your soul. From what you could tell, it was subjectively kind of an ugly cat too. Like a mutt cat. They might have done better if it were a tuxedo cat or if they at LEAST would have a side-profile picture of a cat stretching rather than an open invitation to this profanely puckered pleasure portal just slapped up on a wall where everyone could see it.
At any rate, they meet on tuesdays at some indie studio in uptown, starting in May. They didn't say whether dogs or other pets would be allowed.

First of all, there's no evidence these were images of missing people or that ICE removed them. Second, having photos of hostages posted isn't going to help them be found. We know where they are. That said, I don't know where they were posted, if they're on a businesses private property, people have a right to remove them. Third, everybody agrees Israel has gone way overboard in their retaliation to October 7th. They've turned the entire world against them and their reputation will never be saved. They will forever be seen as the monsters they are.
